We have a great selection of leggings here at Blend and just as important, we have a great selection of items to go WITH the leggings! For some reason the word "leggings" turns people off. If leggings aren't done the right way they really can be a turn-off, but done the RIGHT way they can become your favorite new item.
Today we wanted to help you so you will feel comfortable to at least give leggings a try. We have gathered fantastic tips from around the web and also included some of our own.
CHOOSING A LENGTH (tip from youlookfab.com): I like leggings best when they stop on the widest part of your calf because accentuating a shapely calf muscle is flattering. Somehow this length seems to work whether you have small or big calves. Wearing leggings that stop below your knees but above your calf muscle will also work. Wearing them ankle length looks best paired with a high heel. Most leggings are ankle length which means you’ll need to scrunch them to your best length. This automatically makes them more opaque, which gives you extra coverage.
SHOWING SOME SHINE (tip from fashionindie.com): This season leggings are going Lycra, which creates sleek, shark-skin shine that will add an extra bit of boom to your look. The leggings pictured above by The Row (the Olsen's line) is perfect for the urbanite looking for a bit more attention and puts you in a leggings crowd all your own. (On the model: The Row’s lambskin on cotton and Lycra leggings and viscose T-shirt worn with Don the Verb’s wool coat. Rise Up’s organic cotton shirt and scarf; Tashkent by Cheyenne’s boots.)
PAIRING THEM (our tip): Opting for a tunic is another approach if you want to wear leggings. If you have slim thighs you will want your tunic to hit mid-thigh length. If you want to show a little less leg, choose a tunic that reaches the knee area. Wear a dress that is loose fitting and hits somewhere between mid-thigh and knee with leggings. If you choose a longer dress, opt for longer leggings.
WEARING THE RIGHT SHOES (our tip): Who knew that when you wear different lengths of leggins they need to be paired with a different shoe? Well it really is true! Leggings can be worn with both flats and heels. If you choose heels, go for a longer legging that hits between the mid and lower calf area. You are always trying to elongate the body and legs, check and make sure you are doing that when you chose your shoes!
We are going to help you out even more next week by showing a how-to video (because it is always easier to explain when you can see it) on how to correctly work leggings into your wardrobe. Be sure to stay tuned!
Before we end this post we wanted to show you our favorite thing to pair with leggings, a Enti Babydoll dress. Can you believe it is only $25?! Such a fantastic deal!
