New York and Los Angeles are arguably
the country’s epicenters of fashion. For those fortunate enough to
shop the pristine racks and shelves of the world’s most fashionable
boutiques, we decided to do a little comparison shopping on your behalf.
Our mission: Discover where the best
deals in L.A. and New York are located to see where your dollar will
go the farthest on modern clothing.
The Jeans:
While our options here vary greatly
by brand, we found more selection of denim pants under $200
on Fifth Avenue in New York. In fact, some great deals on skinny jeans
could bag you a new pair for just over $100 if you watch for sales and
pick your brands carefully. They can be found on Rodeo Drive but you’re more likely to find jeans running $200 or more there.
The Handbag:
Again, it largely depends on your brand
selections here. While many top designers offer handbags in the $100
to $300 range in New York, we found that things are all across the spectrum
in Los Angeles. A Juicy Couture bag can be yours for $50, but wander
up the street to Jimmy Choo and expect to shell out several hundred
dollars – or more.
The Verdict:
As a general rule New York seemed
to offer a bit more selection of designer fashions and accessories,
but when it comes to major designers the prices between the two cities
were fairly similar for their selections of modern women’s clothing.
Grab your pocketbook and decide for
yourself: New York chic or California cool? Either way your bank account
won’t be able to tell the difference.
